Budget accommodation in London options

A number of websites have arisen in the last couple of years which aim to provide cheap and cheerful accommodation in London, among other cities around the world. House-holders with room to spare rent out their space, and travellers get a space to stay at a fraction of the price of a hotel. So, if you’re on a budget, there’s a sofa/camp-bed/spare room/garden out there waiting for you.

Here are three of the latest ventures to provide a link between hosts and guests.

Crashpadder.com

Crashpadder.com is the brainchild of former internet marketing analyst Stephen Rapaport. Launched in 2008, crashpadder.com aims to unite savvy travellers and spare rooms and sofas in over 40 countries around the world. London-based, the city is one of their main markets.

Wheretosleep.co.uk

Wheretosleep.co.uk has the same idea, but with a broader focus. Here, you can rent everything from a spare room to a villa. Wheretosleep.co.uk was launched in 2011.

Campinmygarden.com

Also launched in 2011, campinmygarden.com aims to utilise London’s countless gardens, offering everything from “bamping” (basic camping) to “glamping” (glamourous camping). The brainchild of Victoria Webbon, campinmygarden.com is the world’s first online garden camping community.

These ventures are still fairly new, but the buzz about them is good so far. With the Olympic Games taking place in London in 2012, they should do very well.
