Family events at Treasures of Heaven – British Museum

Enjoy a series of free events for the family at the British Museum’s latest exhibition, Treasures of Heaven. Make a pilgrim badge and set off on a journey to hear troubadour tales of saints and monsters. Create a glittering treasure box and explore the world of medieval music and dance.

Free lunchtime concerts at St Martin-in-the-Fields

Enjoy free lunchtime concerts in the lovely surroundings of St Martin-in-the-Fields, overlooking Trafalgar Square. The church has a long-standing musical tradition and aims to promote up-and-coming talent. A donation is appreciated.

Kids Week

Kids Week offers children the opportunity to experience the magic of London theatre for free. A child aged 6-16 can go free to any participating show when accompanied by an adult paying full price. Up to two extra children’s tickets can be purchased at half price per transaction. Booking opens on 12 July. There are also a number of associated free events – behind the scenes tours and workshops. 4 August – 4 September
More London Free Theatre

Enjoy free theatre at The Scoop, an outdoor theatre by the river Thames, next to City Hall. The Steam Industry theatre company return for their eighth season at The Scoop with offerings for all the family, with adaptations of Jules Verne’s “Around the World in 80 Days” and Bertolt Brecht’s “The Mother”. Performances start at 6pm and 8pm, and there’s no need to book. Just turn up and enjoy.

28-29 August
Notting Hill Carnival

August is a good month for carnivals. Head for Notting Hill in West London on the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of August, and enjoy the music and spectacular costumes at Europe’s largest Caribbean carnival. Sunday is children’s day and Monday is adult’s day – bands will take to the road from about 9am on both days.
